As with human DNA, the composition of each custom plastic packaging bag is unique; there are no two alike. Custom bags are tailor-made to certain specifics. It’s the customer who determines the right components, the type of bag and features.
How a custom poly bag is created ultimately depends on its purpose. The main question is: How will the consumer use it?
What is the Gauge?
Another word for the gauge is thickness. The general rule-of-thumb is that the thicker the film the stronger the material is. Logically, the heavier gauge is suitable for more substantial items like pebbles or sand.
Most Common PE Prime Resins
Low-Density Polyethylene (LDPE)
As the name ‘low-density’ implies, the molecules are linear in composure and not tightly packed together. This makes the plastic softer and more flexible. LDPE is the most common type of poly film and is widely used. You will find LDPE for example in a sandwich bag or a trash bag.
High-Density Polyethylene (HDPE)
Besides being the most chemical/UV-resistant film, HDPE is stronger and more puncture resistant than LDPE. The molecules are tightly packed together which gives it high tensile strength. On the other hand, it is less flexible. A grocery shopping bag, for instance, is an example of packaging made out of HDPE film.
Resin Blend Options
As a result of mixing prime resins and/or recycled materials, we can create a custom plastic bag with the perfect DNA.
Additives add certain characteristics. For instance, the additive “EVA” adds strength and elasticity.
Color or Clear?
TDI can produce your custom plastic bag with a clear or colored film.
- Logically, a clear bag is perfect to reveal its contents.
- Certain color tones can hint to the characteristic of its contents, such as a red-colored bag that represents the spiciness of a food product.
- Furthermore, color can reflect a certain brand image. For example, a beauty product line that is always wrapped in black tinted packaging.
- Moreover, darker or lighter dyes can affect heat retention or make it more UV-resistant. The darker the color, the more heat it retains.
The Right Measurements
Obviously, having the right measurements for your bag is extremely important for a proper fit of contents.
TDI’s guideline is to add 1″ (inch) to each measured side of a bag. Also, we created a specific formula for our customers for proper measurements.
